"The Woman's Club of Jackson was formed in 1910 to better conditions in the City of Jackson, Our purpose was to promote Social, Civic, Educational, and Philanthropic projects in the City of Jackson. Participation in community service was a primary objective from the beginning when 56 ladies joined the effort in the "great and pressing need of a high school". Detert Park was beneficiary of the club's energy between 1934 and 1939, when members helped in choosing its ornamental landscape plan. Throughout the years, our past history indicates sponsorship of a Boy Scout troop, child welfare programs and charitable programs for the less fortunate. Early on, the clubhouse was made available to the county for the use as a library until a permanent one could be established sometime after." (visit link)
