Am 14. Juli 1866 fand in Aschaffenburg ein Gefecht im Rahmen des Deutschen Krieges statt. Vor den Toren und in den Straßen der Stadt verloren zahlreiche Offiziere und Soldaten der kämpfenden Truppen ihr Leben, als die Preußen gegen die verteidigenden Österreicher anstürmten.
Das sog. "Österreicher-Denkmal" aus rotem Sandstein in Form eines spitzen Turmhelms auf Säulen wurde am 14. Juli 1868 feierlich enthüllt.
On July 14, 1866 an engagement of the Austro-Prussian War took place in Aschaffenburg. Outside the city gates and in the streets numerous officers and soldiers of the fighting troops lost their lives when the Prussians attacked the defending Austrians.
The so called "Österreicher-Denkmal", made of red sandstone in the form of a pointed spire on columns, was unveiled on July 14, 1868.
