At first, this memorial was built to commemorate those who fought in the World War I. In 2010, it was rededicated following extensive restoration.Three other wars were added. As of today, it is a symbolic shrine for the veterans of all wars.
The inscription on the monument goes as follow:
1917 - 1918
A TRIBUTE TO THE LOYALTY
AND SACRIFICES OF HER SONS
AND DAUGHTERS WHO GLORIOUSLY
DEFENDED THE LIBERTIES WON
BY THEIR FATHERS.
ERECTED BY THE
CITY OF PITTSFIELD
1926.
The wall extending to the each side of the memorial commemorates one war.
