This piece of sculpture was developed and installed as part of the construction of Fire Station 1. It consists of two large bell shaped sections. One section has its large end open to the sky and small end resting on the ground. The second section rests its large lip on the ground and the small end is located on the third component of the sculpture, a stone trough composed of blocks of granite from bridges in NYC. The trough, or wash collects rain from the bell for redistribution. The sculpture is located on the edge of a flood control wash which has been landscaped as a community park. The sculpture was commissioned by the city of Scottsdale to go with the design of the fire station. The fifteen foot bells are said to reflect the fire bells as well as the trumpet flower which would have been common in the desert. The bells are of Cor-ten steel while the trough is of granite from New York City bridges. The steel is unfinished and thus rusted. The artist is Llan Averbuch who is based in New York City.
