The plaque says, "Industry came to San Juan in 1890 when Belford and Company opened a cannery north of the depot between the tracks and Los Rios Street for "San Juan Brand" fig marmalade, olives and dried fruit. The cannery closed in 1896, but eventually became the Capistrano Walnut Growers Association packing house by 1929. The building no longer exists."
