As a way to help myself recover from cancer I took up riding a recumbent trike. Two years after my diagnosis I started riding my trike across the United States and this is my blog about that on going journey.

On April 21, 2014 I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. I underwent chemo and radiation therapy and then surgery. I then underwent addition chemotherapy. As a result of the surgery I have a permanent colostomy and as a result of the chemo I have neuropathy (loss of feeling) in my feet and fingers.

After completing the second round of chemotherapy I started riding a recumbent trike in order to get my body back. After riding for a little over a year I felt I had gained enough strength and confidence to ride it across the country.

On April 21, 2016, the second anniversary of my diagnosis I started that ride at the Yorktown Victory Monument (location of coordinates) in Yorktown, Virginia. I have titled my ride "A Ride For Hope, Health and Rediscovery". I want to provide hope for other cancer survivors and people with ostomies that they too can do extraordinary things with proper planning and preparation. I want to promote good health particularly timely colonoscopies. I want to rediscover America at a slower speed and also rediscover my capabilities.

I hope you enjoy reading and following my travels.
