The Ermita de San Roque - the Chapel of St. Rochus - is located at the eastern entrance of Garachico above today's new port. The chapel was built in 1636 after the years of the plague in the years 1601/06. The Ermita de San Roque is a simple rectangular building with hipped roof and an arc of stones at the front door. The precious church treasury is the Andalusian Baroque figure of San Roque from the 17th century.
St. Rochus is considered an advocate for ending the plague and therefore every year is celebrated a popular pilgrimage festival on August 20th.
