To the south of the Silver Street bridge is a Mill Pool (pond) that is served by the River Cam. To the south of the Mill Pool is the weir that has a drop of about 3 metres from the river to Mill Pool.

A bridge crosses the base of the weir allowing people to cross the River Cam from Granta Place to the recreational area to the west of the river and the river side path that goes south.

The weir has a steep fall at the beinning and then a gradual fall to the Mill Pool level.
