The plaque says, "This lined section of the Cajon Canal (Circa 1923) helped bring water from the Santa Ana River to Rancho Santa Ana and Several Northern Orange County Communities during the early developments of the county. Construction of the original, inlined earthen canal began in 1875, and was completed by 1878, under join ownership of the cajon irrigation company and Anaheim Water Company, predecessors of the Anaheim Union Water Company. The operation of the canal was managed by generations of dedicated Zanjeros who regulated the flow and distribution of water through the canal. Although the Cajon Canal was abandoned in the 1960's, the last known, intact, section can still be views along the historic Pomegranate Road located approximately 1/4 miles northwest of this site."
