Consisting of a pendulum called "verge" after which is attached a pocket containing projectiles (bullets, sometimes male prisoners returned to their camp), it was operated by pulling on the other arm end traction being facilitated by adding a cons-weight.

It is this device that is at the origin of the french expression « s'attirer des bricoles ».

His appearance dates from the twelfth century. The breast is an improvement since the Pierrière adds to it against a weight for traction on the rod that sends projectiles. This defense machine will be used until the fifteenth century. The mangonel will in turn an improvement of the "Bricole" that will be designed to send more massive projectiles, making it then a siege weapon" Source and further information: (visit link)
