The Diamond Inn is a classic one story motor hotel. Their webpage tells us:
The pink elephant came from Disney World, probably in the 50’s. He used to trumpet loudly, but the noise caused some accidents. Because of that, the county made the owner take the sound mechanism out. The pink elephant is like the Diamond Inn’s mascot; thousands of tourists have stopped just to take pictures next to it, just like they do in front of the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign.
Zippy asked the elephant if he'd been bad because he was hiding behind the motel sign. The elephant said he had retired and moved his library of books about goats and Albert Camus, just like Harry Truman. Zippy replied with the improvised line, I knew Harry Truman and you're no Harry Truman." The elephant then asked if he could start drinking again?
