The tower was designed by Reverend Patrick Cuddihy in 1894, to replicate the Irish Round Tower found in Ireland. It is only one of its kind to be found in the United States. It is made of pink granite quarried from the famous Milford Pink Granite quarries. It stands in Saint Mary's cemetery as a symbol of the industry in Milford.

At Saint Mary's Cemetery in Milford, Massachusetts a round tower was built of Milford granite in the late 19th century as a memorial to central Massachusetts' Irish immigrants, of whom thousands are buried there.
