The estate sign was created by the local community in a participatory arts project, facilitated by artist Roger Hutchinson and organised by the Robert Bakewell Community Association.

Much of the land upon which the Dishley housing estate is built belonged to Dishley Grange Farm, the home and outdoor laboratory of Robert Bakewell, 1725 - 1795. He is said to be the father of modern British farming, and amongst other innovatory achievements, selectively bred the famous 'New Leicester' breed of sheep.
