This outdoor warning siren is owned and operated by the city of Richardson to warn residents of severe weather. All sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of the month at 12 noon, weather permitting. Testing is monitored by a net of volunteer amateur radio operators as an opportunity to practice emergency communications skills and assist in a vital public service. In the event of threatening weather, the test is cancelled, to prevent confusion as a false alarm.
