Robertson in the southern highlands is well known for its high rainfall & fertile soil. The main crop grown in the district is potatoes & in 1977 a local grower constructed this Big Potato using a Sebago as the model. The Big Potato is beside the main street (Illawarra Highway) & occupies the front portion of a small park. It is approx. 10 metres long, 4 metres wide & about 5 metres high.
Zippy the Pinhead's companion points out a Gigantic Spud but Zippy doesn't appear all that interested, apart from the type. This Gigantic Spud is considerably smaller than The Big Potato judging by the size of Zippy's companion standing next to it. However the Gigantic Spud, a Yukon Gold & The Big Potato, a Sebago have one thing in common - they are in real life both of North American origin.
Despite media reports (Southern Highland News (
visit link) ) in 2012 predicting its demise its still in its little park surrounded by well kept lawn.
