This Grade II listed hotel carries the date c.1450 although it was completely remodelled and a large back wing added in 1927.
The hotel has a timber-frame with plaster and brick infill, it has a tile roof with brick return lateral and cross-axial stacks. The old building is of a half-H plan with a single-storey infill. Of two storeys it has a four-window range and there are paired central gables with flanking gabled wings. A brick ground floor with tile gabled coping to the centre, timber-framed wings flank paired stuccoed gables. The entrance has a segmental head and plank door whilst the windows have wooden mullions and leaded glazing. There is a two-light window to the left and a four-light window to the right of the entrance, a five-light window to left end and a 1:4:1-light canted bay window to the right end. The 1st floor has three-light windows and a four-light window to right end.
Known as the King's House in 1560, it was owned by Robert Perrott, an innkeeper, who died in 1589, it has been an inn for most of its history and is now owned by Fullers.
The right return has some exposed timber-framing and an original external lateral stack with offset shaft, the attached gateway has a tile pointed arch and iron gates.
The shaft rises from the fireplace in the dining room called the Oak Room which has part of an important series of late C16th mural paintings of scenes from the book of Tobit with foliage panels.
