This monument lies at the edge of an open field and talks about the signing of the affirmation of peace since the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty of 1867. The pecan tree that was planted is no longer present.

FORT SILL
CENTENNIAL PEACE PROCLAMATION
At this historic location on October 4, 1969, the
Fort Sill Centennial commemorated the Medicine Lodge
Peace Treaty signing of 1867, which ultimately ended
Indian warfare on the southern plains.
A re-affirmation of 100 years of friendship between
the tribes of the South Plains Indian Nations and the
United States Army at Fort Sill was manifested in
the signing of the Fort Sill Centennial Peace
Proclamation of 1969, and the planting of a pecan (peace)
tree at this centennial signing site. These acts
symbolized Fort Sill's determination to continue being
an active military power for peace throughout the world.
