Kelze originated from 1699 following this second expulsion of French religious refugees at the site of a former medieval village, which is already mentioned in documents in 1146 under the name Oberkelze. The refugees came not just from France, but had found in their flight after 1685 initially welcomed in Switzerland.

The half-timbered church in cross shape of the Kelze settlement was opened on 4 August 1709 by Pastor David Clément. The topic of his sermon was "La glorie du temple de Dieu" (the glory of the house of God).
Date the Church was built, dedicated or cornerstone laid: 08/04/1709
