With over 25,000 passengers flowing through this station it is hoped at some point in the future the Broadway - City Hall Station will become busier once an east-west rapid transit constructed. To accommodate this possibility the existing station was designed with a knock-out wall that can be removed to connect it to future station.
The station is located at the intersection of Cambie Street and West Broadway, with its entrance at the southeast corner of the intersection. It serves a number of nearby landmarks: Vancouver City Hall, City Square Mall, Vancouver General Hospital and related facilities; as well as surrounding Fairview and Mount Pleasant neighbourhoods.
