Mining for coal and ore has 800 years of tradition in the Harz Mountains. The small town Rübeland proudly displays this heritage.

This small wooden carving displays the beginning of the mining industry in the Harz Mountains, when mining was back breaking manual labor.

The six feet tall carving is on display at the entrance to the restaurant "Zur Grünen Eiche."

Glückauf (Good Luck) is the traditional greeting amongst German miners.
