"Il ponte Aleardi è un ponte di Verona sul fiume Adige.

Storia

Costruito nel 1879, fu intitolato al poeta veronese Aleardo Aleardi per via della sua scomparsa l'anno precedente. Fu costruito dopo ponte Navi, per collegare più velocemente la città al cimitero monumentale.

Già nel 1882 il ponte venne abbattuto da un'inondazione, e venne ricostruito in ferro nel 1884, ma dato il deterioramento troppo rapido del materiale nel '39 fu decisa la sua ricostruzione in cemento armato.

Il ponte non venne mai concluso per via della guerra, ed il 25 aprile 1945, vennero demoliti i piloni dai tedeschi in fuga, ma gli alleati eressero velocemente un ponte militare per poter proseguire l'avanzata.

The Aleardi bridge is a bridge in Verona over the Adige river.

History

Built in 1879, it was named after the poet Aleardo Aleardi because of his death one year before. It was built to connect ships faster to the cities monumental cemetery.

Already in 1882 the bridge was demolished by a flood, and was rebuilt in iron in 1884, but given the deterioration of the material too fast in '39 it was decided the reconstruction of reinforced concrete.

The bridge was never completed because of the war and on 25 April 1945, the piers were demolished by the Germans on the run, but the allies quickly erected a military bridge in order to continue the advance.
