The town of Estaing is dominated by the Chateau d'Estaing, a national historic monument.

Première référence de la baronnie en 1028. Construction puis remaniements du château aux 15e, 16e et 17e siècles. En 1789, le château n'échappe pas au vandalisme de la Révolution. A cette époque, les écussons sont grattés, le château pillé et les bâtiments confisqués. En 1836, le château accueille les soeurs Saint-Joseph. En 1930, construction d'une chapelle près de celle des seigneurs d'Estaing (15e siècle). Après la Seconde guerre mondiale, le château se transforme en maison de retraite pour religieuses. Le château est constitué de bâtiments de hauteurs différentes organisés autour d'une terrasse.
(EN) First reference to the barony was in 1028. Construction and remodeling of the castle continued in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. In 1789, the castle did not escaped the vandalism of the Revolution. At this time, the defenses were scaled,the castle plundered and buildings confiscated . In 1836, the castle was turned over to the Sisters of St. Joseph. In 1930, a chapel was built close to the chapel of the Lords d'Estaing (15th century). After the Second World War, the castle is transformed into a retirement home for nuns. The castle consists of different heights of buildings organized around a terrace.
In 2005 the nuns turned the castle over to the town of Estaing who then sold it to Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, former President of the Republic, his brother and cousin, although they are not directly related to the Estaing family. They bought the castle for the name!
