DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 AT NASHVILLE. AT NASHVILLE, DAVIDSON COUNTY, ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF BROADWAY, SET VERTICALLY IN THE NORTH FACE OF THE STONE PILLAR ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE CENTER ENTRANCE TO THE CUSTOMS BUILDING, 3.5 FEET ABOVE THE SIDEWALK. NOTE-- STAMPING ON DISK IS SLIGHTLY DISFIGURED BUT APPEARS TO BE 1899 AND NOT 1901. THE 495 OF STAMPING IS NOT LEGIBLE.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1984 RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. LOCATED IN NASHVILLE ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF BROADWAY, BETWEEN 7TH AND 8TH STREETS, DISK SET VERTICALLY IN THE NORTH FACE OF THE SECOND STONE PILLAR PIER EAST OF THE WESTERNMOST ONE OF FOUR, AND AT THE MAIN NORTH ENTRANCE TO THE CUSTOMS BUILDING (BUILT IN 1877). NOTE--ACCORDING TO THE USGS, THIS BM WAS TO BE RESET IN 1982 AT THE SAME ELEVATION. THE DAMAGED USGS DISK HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY BENCH MARK DISK. THE STAMPING NOW READS--NASHVILLE USGS 1901. THE MARK IS 1.1 M ABOVE PAVEMENT.
