This tall monument marks the location of a time capsule placed in honor of the more than 15,000 who worked on the Central Artery Tunnel Project.

At the edge of Boston's North End is this monument marking the location of a time capsule dedicated to the workers of the Central Artery Tunnel.

The marker is located by the old Sumner Tunnel Administration Building. It to the right of the main entrance, in the shade of a small tree.

The monument is over six feet tall, is about two feet wide and maybe four inches thick. The main part is stone, with a bronze plaque attached.

The plaque states the following:

THIS PLAQUE IS DEDICATED TO THE MORE
THAN 15,000 WORKERS WHO HELPED
DESIGN, MANAGE AND CONSTRUCT THE
CENTRAL ARTERY/TUNNEL PROJECT
FROM ITS INCEPTION IN 1987 THROUGH ITS
COMPLETION. ESPECIALLY HONORED ARE
THOSE WORKERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES
HELPING TO BUILD THE PROJECT.

THE PROJECT IS ONE OF THE
MOST COMPLEX ENGINEERING PROJECTS
EVER UNDERTAKEN. THE COMPLETION
OF THIS IMPORTANT PIECE OF BOSTON'S
TRANSFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE
IS A TESTAMENT TO THE INGENUITY, HARD
WORK AND DEDICATION OF THE
CENTRAL ARTERY/TUNNEL PROJECT
DIVERSIFIED TEAM OF FEDERAL, STATE AND
PRIVATE INDUSTRY WORKERS REPRESENTING
MORE THAN THIRTY-FIVE COUNTRIES.

TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THIS
PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT, A TIME CAPSULE IS
BURIED HERE CONTAINING A LIST OF WORKERS
AND OTHER DOCUMENTS AND ARTIFACTS,
INCLUDING A STEEL STRAND USED TO SUPPORT
THE LEONARD P. ZAKIN BUNKER HILL BRIDGE.
