Bishop Thomas Beavan of Springfield decided in 1903 that it was time to create the parish of St. Peter’s. It wasse decided to have a larrger church built to accommodate the increasing population of worshipers at St. Peter’s. In 1912 he had the old church moved to the corner of Church Street (now Church Avenue) and Cross Street (now Cross Place) where it served as a parish hall for several years before
burning down. Construction of the new church was begun in 1913, and the building was completed in the following year.
