This tall obelisk was placed 50 years after the date of the battle of Corinth in honor of Col. William Rogers, of the 2nd Texas Infantry, Confederate States Army.

Col. Rogers died so bravely that his victorious enemy, U. S. Army General Rosecrans of the US Army of the Cumberland, directed that Rogers be buried with full military honors.
