1354 a chapel was built at the same place and dedicated to Mary. Due to expansion of urban fortifications this was demolished and replaced by another chapel, which was also demolished after 100 years.
1749 a church was build, which was popularly called Gartenkirche (garden church), because of the many gardens outside of Hannover.
When the church was too small, this was replaced in 1891 by the current church, which is officially called Gartenkirche.
