There are a number of variations in the signs used for pubs called The Bulls Head but in this case it is a stylised drawing of the head.
The pub itself stands next to the Macclesfield Canal which opened in 1831 and this sign is visible from the canal towpath. The sign simply says Bulls Head, whereas painted brickwork on the front of the hotel says The Bull's Head Hotel.
