In 1882, James Wiley “J.W.” Hartman opened the Hartman Funeral Home in Derry, PA. After a devastating fire destroyed the building, Mr. Hartman moved the business in 1883 to 332 Main St. in Latrobe, which was also the location of Hartman Furniture Company. Today 332 Main Street is the location of Westmoreland Federal Savings and Loan.

In 1923, J.W.’s son, Mathias Saxman Hartman Sr., bought a home at 409 Depot Street, converted it into a funeral home while living upstairs, and went into business with his father. J.W. Hartman passed away in 1932

In 1947, J.W.’s grandson, and Mathias’ son, Mathias S. “Matt” Hartman Jr. became a licensed funeral director. He went into business and worked with his father until 1953 when Mathias Sr. passed away.

1n 1963, Matt Hartman and his wife Alice purchased the property at 1500 Ligonier Street and tore down the large apartment building on the site. He then designed and oversaw the construction of the existing structure which opened as a funeral home in 1964.

In 1988, John A. Graziano and his wife Lisa purchased the funeral home from Matt Hartman, incorporated and renamed the firm to Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc. Matt Hartman continued working at the funeral home until he passed away in 2008.

John and Lisa Graziano and their staff continue to operate the funeral home in Latrobe, serving and fulfilling every family's needs to the best of their ability.
