Born in Detroit, Michigan on March 10, 1910, Donald Thomas Bexley was one of the most accomplished black comedians for more than 50-years. During the 1940’s while performing as a standup comedian he first met Redd Foxx who would become a lifelong friend. The two perform together and in 1972, Foxx cast Bexley in the reoccurring role of “Bubba” on the TV sitcom “Sanford and Son.” During his later years, Don relocated to Hampton, Virginia where he continued to perform and make personal appearances until his health forced him to retire in 1996. Don “Bubba” Bexley died on April 15, 1997 and is buried in Hampton Memorial Gardens in Hampton, Virginia.

Donald Thomas Bexley was born on March 10, 1910 in Detroit Michigan. In the 1940’s Bexley started doing a standup comedy routine, performing with such comedy stars as Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, and Danny Kaye. During his early career Don met another comedian named Redd Foxx. The two became loyal and fast friends and would work together for the next 40-years. Bexley was an accomplished character actor appearing in such TV-Shows as T. J. Hooker, Laverne & Shirley, and Cheers. In 1972, Bexley was cast in the reoccurring role of Bubba Bexley on the TV-Series Sanford and Son. When Sanford and Son ended in 1977, Bexley relocated to the Tidewater area of Virginia where he continued to performed standup routines and making personal appearances until his failing health forced him to retire in 1996. Don Bexley died on April 15, 1997 in Hampton, Virginia and he is resting in the Hampton Memorial Gardens.
