John Bigler, a native of Pennsylvania, 1806 - 1871. Elected first speaker of the California Assembly in 1849. Elected governor #3 in 1852. Reelected in 1854. He was credited with bringing the capitol to Sacramento in 1854.

He is buried in the Masonic section of the Historic City Cemetery.
