This UK Post Office is located on Abbey Foregate in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
It is particularly special because it is in a Grade II English Listed Building (Date Listed: 10 January 1953 ; English Heritage Building ID: 454958). This was originally a row of 3 houses, No.166 now in use as the post office.
They were built late C16 or early C17 and are timber-framed with a plain tiled roof. There are 2 storeys and a 6-window range. There is irregular square panelled framing with a mid rail to each storey. Each dwelling had a 2-unit plan, the central entrance in No 164 & 166, and a doorway to the left in No.165.
There is a pedimented canopy over doorway to No.165, with plain architrave on brackets to No.164. There is moulded architrave to No.166. Sash windows flank the doorway to No.164, and there are casements in Nos 165 & 166. The upper windows are casements, irregularly spaced. There are 4 dormers in the roof with fretted barge-boards with finials. There are rear and axial stacks.
Abbey Foregate Post Office is a family run Post Office based on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. Caroline Dave and Neil have run it since January 2007. They offer a wide range of Post Office services including Royal Mail Philatelic items. They are an official supplier of Royal Mint coins and also offer a photo booth, a great range of Noël Tatt greetings cards and a selection of stationary.
They have extended openings hours and free on site parking.
