This monument with the St James scallop is located at a small place at the way from the cathedral down to the old town of Breisach and the river.

The monument is an abstract steel structure symbolizing a pilgrim with a triangle hat and a circle head. The only not abstract part is the large scallop.

Breisach is one of the major connection points of the way of St James in southwest Germany. From Breisach the way leads over the border to France and then to Burgundy.
