Thomas Fisher was born in Rochester around 1781, the son of a printer and bookseller. He worked for the East India Company for some 46 years. He was an accomplished draughtsman and antiquarian and was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Between 1812 and 1816 Fisher published 95 plates of his drawings of monumental and other remains in Bedfordshire.

The engraving of the church, dated 1812, can be seen on the Bedfordshire Records Office website. The church appears little altered today.
