This plaque is dedicated to Starkweather’s Brigade, commanded by Brig. Gen. John C. Starkweather in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Sept. . 19, 1863 at 2:00 pm. This is one of four plaques to Starkweather’s Brigade on the battlefield.

To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Reed’s Bridge Road, follow the path south west. Pass the marker for the 82nd Indiana Regiment.

Sept. 19, 1863, 2 P. M., 2d Position.

24th Illinois	-	Col. Geza Mihalotzy.
	-	Capt. August Mauff.
79th Pennsylvania	-	Col. Henry A. Hambright.
1st Wisconsin	-	Lieut. Col. George B. Bingham.
21st Wisconsin	-	Lieut. Col. Harrison C. Hobart.
	-	Capt. Charles H. Walker.
4th Indiana Battery	-	Lieut. Henry J. Willits.

Baird’s Division, upon withdrawing from the lines of its morning fighting, was assembled on this ground about 2 P.M. Toward 4 o’clock this Brigade with Scribner’s was sent forward to support Johnson’s Division then in isolated position much in advance of the general line. This took the Brigade over the line of its morning engagement, and many of its wounded were recovered. At dusk both Brigades were involved in the night attack of Cleburne’s Division.
