This "Old City Coat of Arms" is a mosaic, and it has been the coat of arms of Gelsenkirchen till the year 1928.
At first it was situated above the main entrance of the old townhall of Gelsenkirchen at Machensplatz. Since 1998 the mosaic decorates the facade of the "Gertrud Bäumer Realschule" at Rotthauser Straße 2/Zeppelinallee 1.
The mosaic shows us a coal miner, an iron founder and a church.
It measures 3x3 Meters.
