You should allow at least several hours to wander around this museum and aquarium. You can even arrange to stay overnight on the William M. Black "boat & breakfast"! It was once a working dredgeboat on the Mississippi River; when it was retired and brought to its permanent anchor at Dubuque, its paddlewheel had to be removed to get it into the harbor. As you enter the Museum, you walk past the Black's paddlewheel.

We especially enjoyed the traveling exhibit on display during the summer of 2006: Catfish Planet.
