Francis King studied art at the Slade School between 1922 and 1924. In 1930 he became an art teacher, and in 1935 moved to Letchworth to teach at St Christopher’s School. He exhibited his work at the Letchworth Museum.

The corner of the two roads still exists today. The edwardian lamp post in the centre of the picture has been replaced by a concrete lamp post on the other side of the tree. The painting, oil and acrylic on board and dating to circa 1946, is in the collection of the First Garden City Heritage Museum.
