Robin Mackertich was born in Lucknow, India in 1922. She trained at the Wimbledon School of Art from 1937-40 and at the Slade School from 1940-41 and 1945-47.

St Michaels Church is a polygonal building, but only has windows to the South of the building. The painting, therefore, must have been painted from that direction. The painting would indicate that the roof is well proud of the walls, however the finished building displays little roof, unless you are at some distance, across the road. The perspective of the underside of the spire indicates that the artist would have been close to the building. The conundrum is solved if one compares the width of the window to the height of brick above the window. Clearly the roof must have been put on before the wall was at full height.

The painting, oil on canvas, is dated 1967 and is in the collection of Letchworth Museum and Art Gallery.
