Ham-Com, described by Amateur Radio operators as a "hamfest" has been held annually in mid-June since 1978. Over the years, it has moved from one location to another, as it sought larger venues for its ever-increasing participation. The coordinates shown above are for the Plano Texas Convention Center, the site of the 2018 Ham-Com. The photos in the Gallery are from the 2014 Ham-Com which was held at the Plano Texas Convention Center.
A hamfest is a gathering place for amateur radio operators (otherwise known as "hams). The event has dozens and dozens of flea market, used equipment tables sponsored by various individuals and groups. The event also has numerous new equipment vendors from all over the country. Hams show up to view what's available in the market for ham radio equipment, as well as looking for 'bargains' at the flea market tables. Traditionally, the flea market is held outdoors in the parking lot, however, beginning in 2015, it will be held indoors (in air-conditioning).
Door prizes are awarded hourly throughout the event, and several grand prizes at the end of the hamfest. In addition, there are forums on various hobby-related topics, as well as test sessions for those wanting to get their radio licenses.
Although there are tables selling non-ham items, this is basically an event for ham radio operators. It is a place where they can rub elbows with others of a like mind, and see out of town friends they know and talk to on the air.
