The South Llano Crossing has been used since Junction was founded in 1876. Although earlier bridges existed along this stretch of the river, a bridge was built in 1916 to accommodate travelers along the Transcontinental Old Spanish Trail Highway. When the 1916 bridge became functionally obsolete, this bridge was constructed in 1937. The bridge now overlooks Lake Junction created in 1965 when the river was dammed.
