Description:
William duHamel Denney was the 56th Governor of the State of Delaware. A Republican, Denney served in the Delaware General Assembly for one session (1905-06), serving as Speaker. During World War I, he left his insurance industry job for the US Army, rising to the rank of 1st Lieutenant while serving stateside. Denney was elected Governor of Delaware in 1920, serving one term from 1921-1925. Denney remained active in state government government, serving as Delaware's acting secretary of state in 1931 and as state librarian from 1941 to 1948.
