Alliance, Ohio has been an active RR city since 1850 when 2 main railroads routed there rail lines through Alliance. The Cleveland & Wellsville RR ran from Cleveland south to Wellsville on the Ohio River and the Ohio & Pennsylvania RR ran from Pittsburg, PA west to Ft. Wayne, IN. The city of Alliance was formed in 1850 from 3 settlements and the city fathers built Main Street to end at the RR Depots of both lines. Many factories sprang up around the railroads. The Norfolk & Southern RR runs many trains through Alliance every day. The Amtrak's Capitol Limited stops in Alliance twice a day on the Washington D.C. to Chicago run.
