Giant Mountain is 6 miles long and will take about 7.5 hours to hike using the Ridge Trail route (second parking area you encounter on Rte 73 from Keene Valley). My family took the Roaring Brook Trail (the first parking area you encounter along Rte 73 from Keene Valley), which is a 7.2 mile round trip, and we did it in 7 hours including a 1/2 hour lunch stop at the top (so we were probably hiking faster than average). A third approach is to come from the north, Rt 9 at New Russia. Even though the mountain may seem intimidating, Giant Mountain is actually an easier hike than many of the High Peaks.

Giant Mountain is also called "Giant of the Valley" because it beautifully looks over Keene Valley and St. Hubert's to the west. There are huge rock slides on the mountain's western side and it is located far away from any other peaks, giving the mountain a gigantic look. Hence, that is how Giant Mountain got its name
Altitude in Feet: 4627
