[DE] Lahnmarmor (früher Nassauer Marmor genannt) ist eine große Gruppe polierbarer Kalksteine, die im Mitteldevon entstanden. Zentren der Gewinnung waren Balduinstein, Diez (beide Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, Rheinland-Pfalz), Villmar und Schupbach (beide Landkreis Limburg-Weilburg, Hessen). Der Abbau dieses auch international nachgefragten Natursteins aus Riffkalk reicht nachweislich bis in das 16. Jahrhundert zurück.
Der Unica-Bruch in Villmar ist der einzige von über einhundert ehemals betriebenen Lahnsteinbrüchen, der zugänglich ist. In diesem aufgelassenen Steinbruch der Nassauischen Marmorwerke Dykerhoff & Neumann steht überwiegend roter Lahnmarmor (Unica A) an, der mit Seilsägen abgebaut wurde. Diese Methode ließ eine in zwei ausgesägte Terrassen gegliederte etwa sechs Meter hohe und 15 Meter lange Wand entstehen, die einen wohl weltweit einmaligen dreidimensionalen Einblick in den Aufbau eines Stromatoporenriffs aus dem Devon erlaubt.
Der Gemeindesteinbruch Unica ist 2001 zum Naturdenkmal erklärt worden und fand 2006 Eingang in die Liste der Nationalen Geotope.

[EN] Lahnmarmor (Lahn marble, formerly called Nassau marble) is a polishable limestone, which originated in the Middle Devonian. Centers of extraction were Balduinstein, Diez (both Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, Rhineland-Palatinate), Villmar and Schupbach (both Limburg-Weilburg, Hesse). The mining of this internationally sought-after natural stone from reef limestone started already in the 16th century.
The Unica quarry in Villmar is the only one of over a hundred formerly operated Lahn marble quarries, which is accessible. In this abandoned quarry two sawed terraces about six meters high and 15 meters long wall that allow a unique three-dimensional insight into the structure of a Stromatopore reef from the Devonian.
The Unica quarry has been declared a natural monument in 2001 and in 2006 found entrance to the list of National geotopes.
