In Cumberland, near the entrance to the Monastery Grounds, is this multi-war memorial.

The memorial is located to the left as you drive in via the entrance at RI Route 114 (Diamond Hill Road). Parking is available further in. There are several monuments - this one is close to both the road and entrance.

The monument is a stone structure with a bas relief bronze plaque on the side facing the driveway. On the right is a small launcher. The stone is roughly hewn at the top and only a little smoother on the side. The plaque has the following on it:

At the top are two years, which are two minor wars - 1812 (War of 1812) and 1849 (Mexican War). Also near the top are two wreathes. At the center is a figure maybe representing Columbia, or perhaps Athena (one of the Greek deities of war) who bears a sword. On either side are figures wearing period uniforms for the four major wars at the time the monument was made: 1776 (American Revolutionary War), 1861 (American Civil War), 1898 (Spanish-American War), and 1917 (World War I) The years are below the figures. Below them are the following words:

"The honor and glory of those who fought to establish the republic, to maintain inviolate the Union of States, to free oppressed peoples from tyrannical governments, and to spread throughout the world the principles of democracy, this monument and park are dedicated by the grateful townspeople of Cumberland, Rhode Island May 30th, Anno Domini, 1924."

Other things are planted around the monument. Across the small sidewalk, there is a bench where you can sit and contemplate this monument.
