Veterans Lake is a 67-acre lake damming the Travertine Creek on the southwest side of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Built back in the mid-1930s with the help of the CCC and WPA, it offers wonderful fishing venues, and no-wake boating.

The lake offers three miles of shoreline, along with a boat ramp, boat dock and fishing dock. The lake also features picnic areas, grills, restrooms and a group shelter. The state record black bass hybrid was caught here in March of 2006, weighing eight pounds, five ounces.

Be sure to plan a full day's trip to this area. The Chickasaw National Recreation Area is a wonderful place to wander through, with heavy foliage, hiking trails, picnic and camping grounds, and historic park buildings. There are historic markers through giving great information about the area, and several artesian wells are still producing and beautiful to see.
