Painted and Snapping Turtle safe crossing, Kawartha lakes, Ontario

While biking along the Trans Canada Trail as it crossed Opmar Road, I spotted two turtles, one Snapping Turtle and one Painted turtle closing in on the road.

Both turtles were together, a few feet apart on the trail approaching the road crossing. The snapper was a large one and retreated into its shell. The Painted Turtle was a smaller one and I was able to move it to a safer location and stayed to watch the Snapper as it moved off the road into into a ditch.
