The Wymarse mill or Castle mill is a water Mill in Arcen in the Dutch municipality of Venlo.
The mill belonged to the possessions of the Castle Arcen and was build in 1677. The mill
was in de South of the original Castle, which was destroyed during the siege of Venlo in 1646. The owner rebuild the castle several years later.
In 1856 the mill has two support wheels: one wheel for the production of oil and one wheel for the production of flour that were produced in the building. The mill was rebuilt In 1881/1882, with a steel's high-powered wheel for the production of flour.
In 1944 the Wymarse Mill was severely damaged. The remnants were still further into decline until in 1978 the Foundation the Limburgs Landscape became owner of the Castle, the castle gardens and the mill. Also the Foundation for the conservation of Water Mill Arcen. There were plans for restoration created and after the Castle and the castle gardens were refurbished, in 1990 the watermill is also restored.
Owner of the Wymarse mill is the Foundation the Limburgs landscape. Nowadays is in the watermill "De IJsvogel" a grain-distillery. Here you can see how the mill works and how a grain-disilery works.
You can visit the Watermill from april to October to visit for a fee.
