August Becker grew up in Klingenmünster. After studying History at Munich, he worked at various newspapers, including at the Flying Scroll, and from 1859 to 1864 editor of the River Isar newspaper. In 1868 he moved to Eisenach. He was married to Johanna Friederike Luise Scheurlin (born June 18, 1834), a daughter of the poet George Scheurlin. After his death, his remains were first buried in Eisenach, but later exhumed by request of his children and taken to Klingenmünster. Here he is buried today.

What is this person famous for?:
With his major work "The Palatinate and the Palatinate people" (1857), Becker became the father of Palatine folklore. In this work he describes villages, landscapes, mountains, rivers, tools, crafts, and not least the people of the Palatinate. His stories from the Palatine home will be happy to read today. The August Becker Museum is also home to the Museum of Klingenmünster.
